Candidates for several races from school board to governor of Florida appeared and shared their opinions during Monday night’s election forum at Calvary Chapel Church.
The event, sponsored by the Gulf Breeze Area Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee, came less than a month before the Aug. 24 primary, which will set the stage for the Nov. 2 general election.

If Santa Rosa County Schools received the same amount of state funding per student as Escambia County will this coming school year, Santa Rosa would receive $7.4 million more than scheduled.
If Santa Rosa received perstudent funding equal to that of Okaloosa County, the additional money to local district coffers would be $6.6 million.

Gulf Breeze Chamber of Commerce President Meg Peltier is currently starring in an emotional new play showing at the Loblolly Theatre in Pensacola.
The play – Yolanda Reed’s “Women Walk Through it as if it Wasn’t There” – tells the tale of two women who meet in the waiting room area of a county counseling center.
Hawkins Park to reopen on August 4 with ceremony

Hawkins Park, located on Munson Highway, was donated by the Hawkins family to the State of Florida. It was given freely with one consideration and that is the usage must have people with disabilities included in the event that is planned.

Officials from the National Parks Service and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission (FWC) on July 23 successfully relocated the first of 11 sea turtle nests from the Gulf Island National Seashore Fort Pickens area.
Acting Seashore Superintendent Nina Kelson said the relocation was “unprecedented for the National Park Service.”

Wilkins was born May 26, 1926 in Gaffney, S.C., the son of William R. and Carrie Bass Wilkins. He was a veteran of World War II, The Korean War and The Vietnam War. He retired from the United States Navy after serving 21 years of active duty.

Frank F. Davis, 87, of Navarre, passed away on Wednesday, July 21, 2010.
Davis served in the U.S. Navy as a Naval Aviator in World War II. He was stationed at Kaneone Naval Air Station in Hawaii and was a survivor of the Pearl Harbor attacks. He was a proud member of the Silver Eagles Association of WWII enlisted pilots.

Brown’s career continues in familiar surroundings

Kyle Brown is getting to ‘live the dream’ – and he didn’t have to go very far to do it.
Brown, a 2006 GBHS graduate, recently completed his college baseball career at the University of West Florida. A little more than a month later, Brown signed with the Pensacola Pelicans, who play on the UWF campus.

Dance team wins awards at Auburn camp

The Gulf Breeze High Dance Team recently completed at a camp at Auburn University.
The eight teams that participated each performed their ‘home’ routine. They also had to perform three routines the instructors taught them.
GBHS played fourth for their home routine. They received a Superior award for the routines they learned while they were at the camp.
Dolphins beat FWB in 7-on-7

The Gulf Breeze Dolphin football team continued to work before the start of fall practice with a three-team 7- on-7 outing against Fort Walton and Catholic Thursday in Gulf Breeze.
The Dolphins played a pair of 20-minute, running clock against both teams, beating Fort Walton 11-7 in their first game with them.

Voodoo plays in Beachside Blast

The 16-under Gulf Breeze Voodoo recently competed in the Beach Side Blast, sponsored by the United States Fastpitch Association, at Tiger Point Park.
The Voodoo, which is comprised of GBHS varsity and junior varsity players, lost four of its five games, with two of those losses coming by four runs or less.
Chip’s Gym hosting fourth annual King of the Beach

Chip's 24 Hour Health and Racquet Club will find out on Friday, Sept. 11 when they host their fourth annual King of the Beach Bench Press and Dead Lift Contest at Bamboo Willies on Pensacola Beach.
There will be a divisions for women, teens, masters 40 years and up plus men's divisions by weight category.
