Jeff Baugus said his first thought was “No Way!” when the local paparazzi and Santa Rosa County School District Superintendent came sweeping into his Woodlawn Beach Middle School classroom last Friday morning.
Baugus knew he was one of the finalists for the county’s Teacher of the Year Award, but said he could not believe it when he realized he was the winner.

3 Gulf Breeze schools rank among state’s Top 40

The Florida Department of Education on Monday released a numerical ranking of the state’s 3,078 public and charter schools grouped by elementary, middle, high and combination schools.
Three Gulf Breeze schools received Top 40 rankings, led by Gulf Breeze Middle school at No. 18 among the state’s middle schools.

Sticky notes on a car might be a prank that is worthy of posting on a video sharing site, but it wasn’t all that funny to the car owner.
The car, parked on Shoreline Drive, got wet during the night, causing ink in the notes to bleed onto the car, potentially damaging the paint. The owner filed a complaint of criminal mischief with the Gulf Breeze Police Department.

School district to change Code of Conduct to include synthetics

Gulf Breeze High had one student expelled at last week’s school board meeting for being under the influence of marijuana.
Altogether there were seven students expelled from high schools and middle schools across the county, with three for prescription drug possession and two for spice possession, as well as one for possession of an assault air gun.

The fate of the property under the Gulf Breeze Chamber of Commerce is still in limbo. The property at 409 Gulf Breeze Parkway is owned by the Santa Rosa County School Board. The City of Gulf Breeze has let the school district know the City would like to buy it.
TEAM director Anderson gets termination notice from board

The Executive Director of TEAM Santa Rosa Economic Development Council, Cindy Anderson, received a 60-day notice of termination Monday from Board Chairman Dave Hoxeng.
“None of the TEAM Board of Directors wanted to fire Cindy Anderson. No way did we want to fire her – or any of the staff of TEAM,” Hoxeng told Gulf Breeze News on Tuesday.

Lady lifters sending 2 to state meet
