Beginning August 1, 2009 fishing from shores, beaches or structures attached to shores or beaches - such as docks or piers - will require a license. Prior to August 1st Florida residents were exempt from shoreline fishing license requirements whereas non-residents were always required to have a license.
The new fishing license will cost $7.50 plus an additional $1.50 administrative fee for a total of $9.00. There is also an option for a standard saltwater fishing license which costs $17.00 and covers fishing from boats in addition to shoreline fishing. All licenses are valid for 1 year.
Some Florida residents still will be exempt from the shoreline license requirement, including senior citizens, children younger than 16 and people drawing food stamps. Out-of-state residents 16 and older always have needed a license. Other exemptions include anglers who fish from a licensed pier.
