Average retail gasoline prices in Pensacola rose 0.2 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.54 a gallon on Sunday. This compared with the national average that had fallen 0.2 cents in the last week to $2.68, according to gasoline price Web site PensacolaGasPrices.com.

St. Francis honors ‘angel’ Moore

Esther Moore, the resident angel of St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church in Gulf breeze, turned 96 on Aug. 28. Moore is still beautiful and continually well-groomed even when she isn’t feeling well. She recently suffered an accident in her home and broke her left ankle and is temporarily residing at Bay Breeze Nursing Home.
9-11 remembrance is Saturday

Gulf Breeze American Legion Post 378 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4407 are sponsoring a Sept. 11, 2001 remembrance at 7:30 a.m. Saturday at Gulf Breeze’s 9-11 Memorial Park behind Ace Hardware and across from the Andrews Institute.
Members of local law enforcement, fire departments, emergency medical crews and other first responders will observe a wreath-laying ceremony.
GB Historical Society sets 2010-11 schedule

PLT ‘All Shook Up’ over 74th Season

The director who staged Pensacola Little Theatre’s hit productions of “The Producers” and “Seussical” is back with a musical that weaves songs made famous by Elvis Presley into a story of small town love in the 1950s.

Crowds flocked back to Pensacola Beach for the Labor Day weekend, and it was no surprise that the ‘Anything That Floats’ contest staged by Bamboo Willie’s on Sunday was one of the top draws.
Wannabe sailors of all ages took to the waters of Santa Rosa Sound to battle for homemade floatation domination in what many labeled as ‘bathtub races.’

A friend of mine posted a record of all the out-of-state license plates she saw on Sunday afternoon before Labor Day: OK, GA, MS, NC, OH, VA, AZ, LA, AK, TX, and AL. Now, those are just the ones that she saw! We couldn’t have had better weather and it seems we had a great turnout for our beloved beach this holiday weekend. There were a lot of folks in from out of town.

For the week ending Sept. 3, Gulf Breeze Fire and Rescue was called for 22 incidents. These emergencies included 12 medical calls, 2 motor vehicle accidents, 2 hazardous conditions, 1 public assistance and 5 dispatched and canceled en route.
GBPD awaits blood-test results

Gulf Breeze Police still are awaiting blood test results to determine whether Robert L. Demoranville was intoxicated when he caused a wreck on the Pensacola Bay Bridge on Aug. 29. Demoranville first sideswiped one vehicle before ramming into another car and eventually exiting the bridge into Pensacola.
More Gulf waters opened to fishing

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration on Sept. 2 reopened 5,130 square miles of Gulf waters stretching from the far eastern coast of Louisiana, through Mississippi, Alabama, and the western Florida panhandle to commercial and recreational fishing.
The reopening was announced after consultation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and the Gulf states.

Albert Clark, 91, of Atmore, Ala., and formerly of Gulf Breeze, passed away Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010 in Bay Minette, Ala.
Clark was born in Ebro, Fla., on Oct. 28, 1918. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After his military service, he lived in Pensacola and moved to Gulf Breeze in 1956, where he lived on East Bay and loved to fish. In 2005, he moved to Atmore.

The Gulf Breeze Lady Dolphin golf team opened the 2010 season Thursday at Tiger Point East against Navarre, Catholic and Milton.
The Lady Dolphins finished six shots behind Catholic (190- 196), while Navarre was third (221) and Milton fourth (223).
Laurin Halstead chipped in for birdie on the ninth hole to finish with a team-low 40 for Gulf Breeze.

The Tiger Point juniors scored touchdowns on five of their six offensive possessions as they rolled to a 32-0 season-opening win over Northeast Pensacola Saturday at Tiger Point Park.
The Tigers went 3-2 on Opening Day, with their mini mites (25-0) and mites (40-8) posting victories. Their mighty mites lost to NEP 33-7.

The Gulf Breeze Blue Midgets held off a late charge from Myrtle Grove White to post a 13-6 win on Opening Day of the Gulf Coast Youth Sports Association football season Saturday at Shoreline Park.
The Blue Midgets’ win was one of only two Saturday – GBSA’s Blue Mites (8-0) were also victorious.
