Lady Dolphins take second in Gulf Shores Dolphin Classic

The destination may not have been what the Lady Dolphin softball team had wanted, but it was far outweighed by the journey they took in last weekend’s Gulf Shores Dolphin Classic.
Gulf Breeze won six games in two days before losing to Fairhope 8-1 in Saturday's championship game.
GBHS stays unbeaten in district

The Gulf Breeze Dolphin baseball team got a two-hit, 11-strikeout performance from Ben Lively in a 13-0, five-inning win at Washington to improve to 3-0 in District 1- 4A play.
Lively needed only 73 pitches to get the win, walking only two in the game.
Dolphin lifters edge Navarre 45- 44; improve to 2-0 on season

The GBHS boys weightlifting team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 45-44 win over Navarre in Gulf Breeze on March 3.
Gulf Breeze's results are as follows:

Breezers help West Florida 18s to runner-up place in Capital City Challenge

The West Florida Volleyball Club 18’s took second place at the recent North Florida Volleyball Academy Capital City Challenge in Tallahassee.
In pool play, they beat the Tampa Bay Raptors 25-18, 25-9 and the Pensacola Beach Volleyball Club’s U17s 25-21, 25- 22. They lost to the Elite North Florida Volleyball Academy 25-10, 25-18.

Contract dispute headed to hearing

The Santa Rosa County School District’s teachers’ union has rejected the opinion presented by the Special Magistrate in this year’s contract negotiations with the school district. As a result, both sides will go before a special hearing of the school board Tuesday, March 23.

Price at pump continues to inch upward in March

Average retail gasoline prices in the Pensacola/Gulf Breeze area have risen 5.6 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.75 a gallon on Monday. This compared with the national average that had increased 4.7 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.74 a gallon, according to gasoline price Web site PensacolaGasPrices.com.

One by one, speakers took the microphone to weigh in on the plan to create a pedestrian friendly, beautified Pensacola Beach.

Hospital to expand to 77 beds

Gulf Breeze Hospital is preparing to undertake a $5 million expansion project that will create several new staff positions and improve the services offered by the Baptist Healthcare provider.
The expansion project, set to begin in April, includes two phases: the outfitting of two shelled rooms in the current Intensive Care Unit, and the construction of a 10,000-square-foot annex.
